Clinton is campaigning for his wife in Texas.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Former President Clinton on Friday accused Sen. Barack Obama, his wife's rival for the Democratic nomination, of trying to ignore any accomplishments they achieved during their years in the White House.

"You have one candidate who's made the explicit argument that the only way we can change America is to move into a post-partisan future and therefore we have to eliminate from consideration for the presidency anybody who made good things happen in the '90s or stopped bad things from happening in this decade," said Clinton, who was winding up a day of East Texas campaign appearances for his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"It doesn't matter how much good you did," the former president said at Stephen F. Austin University. "We've got to get rid of you because you had to fight to make something good happen. You had to fight to stop something bad from happening. And if you fought, you made somebody mad, we ought to give you an old watch and retire you. You can't possibly make a contribution to America's future."

Without mentioning Obama by name, Clinton said the Illinois senator was promoting a position that it's "actually an advantage to not have any experience because you've not made anybody mad."

"It's been very effective," Clinton said. "It's already taken four good candidates out. It would have taken Hillary out if she didn't have so much grass-roots support and so much guts."

Clinton said his wife's position is to "bridge the party divides when we can, but we also need to be prepared to fight."

Earlier in the day, Clinton said Democratic voters who support Obama over his wife in the March 4 Texas primary are missing out on an opportunity to back a universal health care system for the nation.

"It would be truly tragic if the Democratic Party walked away from universal health care for the first time in 60 years when we finally got the business community and the medical community in line behind us," Clinton said in Texarkana.

Hillary Clinton's health plan would require everyone to have health insurance and would provide government assistance to people who can't afford it. Obama has proposed government subsidies to help people buy insurance, but he doesn't mandate that they purchase it. Her campaign says Obama's plan would leave up to 15 million people without insurance.

"Her opponent excites more Americans … but would in fact deny us universal health care coverage for the first time," the former president told about 200 people in a gymnasium of a Texarkana community center. "She represents the solution business."

Responding to the criticism, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said: "Now that Senator Clinton's campaign is floundering, the old Bill Clinton has returned with yet another false accusation about Barack Obama of the kind that failed his wife's campaign in South Carolina. Senator Ted Kennedy, who has made health care a cause of his career, said that he wouldn't have endorsed Barack Obama unless he was 'absolutely convinced' he would deliver universal health care as president."

The former president also touched on the war in Iraq, saying indecision by the Iraqi government forces the U.S. to keep its combat troops there.

"If they think we are going to stay there forever and a day, they have no incentive to fix them," Clinton said. "If we stay there, we are not doing them any favors."

I Love you Bill, but I think you are on the wrong note right now. attacking Obama is not gonig to help Hillary, Keep your distance in infact you love the party. You can run the same campaign as Obama is [ positive ] and let the voters decide. that is the best way foward for Hillary '08.

doug   February 16th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

Bill Clinton is trying way too hard…

bdc, phila, pa   February 16th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

disgusting.

Note how he is already helping Hillary prepare to change her view on Iraq to stay longer… She's nothing without him. Not much with him, but even less without.

Give me a break…is not forceing garnishments on peoples pay checks for insurance they don't want another example of our government intrudeing in our lives among other things?

For anyone to support this has never had to undergo the severe restrictions and hardships that a garnishment has caused.

Not all of us can just loan ourselves 5 million dollars!

Least Of All Evils   February 16th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Someone should tell Mr. Clinton that this is 2008 not 1998.

Is he running or is wife?

Scott   February 16th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

What bothers me is that Hillary has no problem with accepting all of her husbands accomplishments as a star on own jacket, but anything he did wrong had nothing at all to do with her.

She will be her own president, is basically how she answers any questions about what role Bill will play… Well wouldn't that have meant when he was president she was just a wife.

If I am getting heart surgery I don't want to hear from my surgeon that she isn't a surgeon, but her husband was one for years, so that makes her qualified.

No way.

Bill Clinton's Legacy: Scandal, more scandal, impeachment; Lies, betrayal, racism on the campaign trail on behalf of his wife.

How can anyone forget Bill and Hilary Clinton's legacy?

Chris   February 16th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Yea because Clinton left such a wonderful legacy……..does anyone wonder why Republicans came to rule the government for the past 8 years?

BILL
I AM SURE BARACK AND THE WHOLE WORLD REMEMBERS YOUR TURRN IN THE BIG OFFICE, MONICA,CIGARS,THE WHOLE NINE YARDS. WAS HILLARY DOING THE WORK OF A PRESIDENT WHY YOU WERE DOING YOUR THING, YES, REMEMBER THE OLD DAYS

I've found a new hobby: Every time Bill opens his mouth, I write a check to Obama. I'm going to need to win the lottery to keep up. Time for Bill to be quiet and go join Jimmy Carter on a Habitat for Humanity build.

Robyn   February 16th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

THANK GOODNESS Obama IS ignoring Clinton's legacy….Bill wants us to only focus on the "good" things that he did, but forget the "bad and ugly" things that is part of his legacy too!

Give me a break! I am doing everything in my power to bite my tongue on this one.

America, thank you, continue to TURN THE PAGE!! We need a president that will create the change in the White House and D.C. politics that we have ALL been waiting for!!!

IF SHE CANT RUN HER OWN CAMPAIGN HOW IS SHE GOING TO RUN THE COUNTRY. OR IS BILL GOING TO BE RUNNING THE COUNTRY AGAIN. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU ALL BUT I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF " THE CLINTON'S"

Gord   February 16th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Bill's legacy is infidelity, lying to the public straight out about it, perjury, and seedy business affairs which lead to related suicides. Obama would be doing Bill a favor by ignoring it.

H. Jones   February 16th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Why was Bill Clinton given so much time covering is speech in texas at approximately 4:10 Pm Sat Feb 16/08 on Ballot Bowl 08.Your 2 to 1 coverage at length with Hillary in Ohio and Bill in Texas at the same time shows a bias coverage against Obama who is fighting a family of three.
Please be more sensetive to the impact your coverage is having on Obama's campaign.

VIRGINIA VOTER   February 16th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Natalie   February 16th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Oh grow up Bill! ! How are you uniting the party when you say Obama "took out" four other qualified candidates? Don't you ever get tired of whining?!? Sheesh!

Raphael Texas   February 16th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Bill Clinton is exactly right. Barrack is purposely using the Clinton and Bush names as the old Washington while he represents the new Washington. How can you represent Washington when your a Junior Senator with 2 years experience. Their needs to be more focus on Barracks experience and leadership skills.

JB from Canada   February 16th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Is it Bill or Hillary running for the White House or are they both running?

Texan4Hillary   February 16th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Obama was all over the Reagan administration, but he does not realize what President Clinton gave America. This country had a surplus, something that it had not seen in a very long time. We had an economy that outshined any scandals. I find it interesting that Obama would praise Reagan but not President Clinton.

Jean Hutto   February 16th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

What about a bill slipped through by Barak Obama, which has been
approved by the House of Representatives and soon to go to the
Senate. This bill by Obama would take untold millions out of America, because Obama would give every nation money in order to bring their standard of living up to our own.

Does anyone know about this? We can't afford Obama.

Michigan500   February 16th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

If Bill Clinton had behaved himself and not chased after a White House intern, alot of us Democrats might remember him in a more positive manner. All I see with the Clintons is a rehash from their enemies again, day after day. Yech! One scandal after another with no end in sight. They claim they have been vetted…..what is that? Vote for me I've been vetted…..wow what a rallying cry, that inspires me not.

Kevin   February 16th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Poor Bill…

You make sense to me Bill. I hope the Obama people don't resort

run for president.

CNN Favors the Clintons!

Iit seems clear to me that at least in the political arena CNN id giving more air time to the Clintons. In the Show "the Ballot Bowl" the play clips of Bill Clinton as if he part of the presidential ticket already. I don't them play clips of Michelle Obama or as a matter of fact, any other candidate's spouse. I don't oppose them endorsing a particular candicate but they should be straight with the peole/viewers and say they endorse the Clintons.

John Smith   February 16th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Still disappointed in the Bill Clinton years. I think the Clintons should take a break away from the political scene for quite some time!!

Kim   February 16th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

YAWN…your getting boring Bill.

CR   February 16th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

The anti-Clinton crowd has, deliberately, ignored how good the Clinton years were for this country.

Be fair and remember how good the economy was, the surplus our goverment had when Clinton left, how social issues were addressed — and not ignored. Remember how much Hillary has fought for health care during the Clinton administration, which unequivocally demonstrates how genuine is her campaigning for this important issue.

Why should you "fix" the Clinton philosophy, if it were not (and is not)broken? Oh… the jargon is "yes, we can change"… Change for worse, if going with the bandwagon means to counter all the good the Clinton years have generated for this country?!

Jennifer Wilson, Salt Lake City, Utah   February 16th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Either your wife is running on her own merits, or she's not. You can't have your cake and eat it to guys.

Lynn Ensley   February 16th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Amen and Amen, There are a lot of people with no memory, it seems. Two for the price of one still rings loud and clear for me. If you think experience isn't important take a plane ride with a cab driver! Go Hillary, keep talking Bill. We have to save this country.

makemydayed   February 16th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

"Bill Clinton: Obama's ignoring my White House legacy"

what a dumb comment, Barack Obama is not running against you retard, he is running against hillary, noticed, he is not thinking of the past, he's all about the future, dont get me wrong, bill did a nice job as a president in the 90's, but its not about him anymore, so move on and shutup…………

Patrick   February 16th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Bill CLinton is right again. Obama has managed to make anyone with expereince in this campaign look bad.

This will be bad for America in the future.

CLINTON 08!

Nicholas from Nigeria   February 16th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Its wrong for Bill in quest to make his wife a president decend so low at arguing irrelivant statement. Obama in several debate has acknowledge the good done by Bill in the 90s. I feel Bill is draging his reputation too low in this campaign. Why is the family so keen in being President? If the job of a President is to work for the people, is it only the Clintons that are capable of doing that same old job same old way? We need a new approach. Perhaps Clinton should know that we are no more in 90s. He should position his campaign very well and shun ill mannered criticism. It makes less of his person.

Obama 08

Billary has backtracked on getting the deligate votes of Fla and Mi.. Now she is so desperate to win any way she can that her Ickeey clown has backtracked also . When will this country finally see that Bill and
Hillary are phonies and will do any thing to get in office. If you think
George was bad , these clowns will wreck this country in 6 months

Go Huckabee!!!!

MarkTexas   February 16th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

I am a republican sitting on the sidelines. And I am loving these great debates in the democratic race. Obama supporters are saying they will not vote Hillary in the general election and Hillary supporters are saying the same for Obama. I love it, we should easily win the general election and can be safe in the knowledge that we will be protected from the terrorists that would absolutely Love to see a democrat as President of the US, so they can rebuild thier troops back up and make new plans to create havoc.

Go McCain!

LafayetteLIB   February 16th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Yes, Bill, please get more front and center and make sure everyone knows of your accomplishments. Especially the way you helped the GLBT community with DADT and DOMA when the sledding got rough with the Republican Congress. Way to stand up for those who supported you!

John Smith   February 16th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Why is CNN covering Bill? Certainly, he is NOT VP and is not running for the position.

I guess those who vote for Hillary because of Bill would have to accept Bill as VP, IF Hillay ever gets to that level of being the nominee!!!

KM   February 16th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Last gulp of air before Obama crushes 'em… The Clintons did do great things for this nation, and that was nice, but we need a complete overhaul with this system that has failed thanks to a two term president that has set us back well over twenty years… Hillary is not capable of uniting this nation, it will only make the current divide larger. She has a tendency to loose it under pressure, whilst she is putting up a great facade now, the true person inside is the one that will come out once the campaigns are over. With her crying act and lashing out at people at the beginning of the campaign, it shows that when backed into a corner she gets scared and flails to survive… As she is doing now that Barack has taken the lead…

JohnS   February 16th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Why is CNN even covering Bill Clinton? He should NOT get any coverage. Bill is not running for a 3rd term. IF preople vote for Hillary because of Bill, they have to be ready to accept Bill to be the VP as he would want some payback. Remember that "nothing" is actually free in the political arena!

evita   February 16th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Look up the information and commentaries on Canada's universal health care, it all sounds good and simple but not so. People can be insured and changes made without going to such an extreme that has proved to have major problems.

sally   February 16th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Americans truly suffer from amnesia. The 90's were great times and anyone who denies this is spewing right wing talking points. Clinton and Gore were not perfect but they had a vision and they tried and they succeeded, despite the hateful Republicans with Newt as their leader. The people voted for Bill twice but now, the media is agenda driven and are bashing the Clintons. Obama will probably win the primary but will all these Independents and Republicans continue to vote for him in the GE? I don't think so! They are voting McCain and the stupid people are falling for this just the way they believed all the Bush's media lies. I do not recognize my country anymore.

P.   February 16th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

I would really like to know in what sense is Obama different from the rest of the crowd. Isn't he a Senator as well? Has he distinguished himself as someone different in the Senate? Has he made any spectacular achievements that eclipse what an ordinary Senator does? Senator Obama: In what sense are your politics different? How do you plan to change Washington? Are you planning to replace all of those guys who are now backing you, who have enjoyed DC for so long?

It's time for some people to wake up and smell the coffee.

Just a note in which I hope will express how upset i get with the american people and CNN.news I never hear them say anything positive about Hillary, of course I seem to think that she is the most qualified, and experienced .

I get tired of CNN.always pushing Obama.where di he come from anyway,

The american soon forgot what you did for them.
When you left office you had taken them out of dept and left them with a surplus.

thank-you for listening.

awg   February 16th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Pathetic. They are wasting their legacy away. If Clinton takes the nomination by arm twisting against the majority will of the voters, the GOP will win in November. Why? Because most Democrats I've talked to will not vote even if Obama is the VP candidate. It's a matter of principle. Very sad to see Pres. Clinton waste away a strong legacy here. But that is the cycle. Crisis and then redemption and request for forgiveness. We can look forward to 4-8 years of more crisis and then redemption. The country does not want that. Do they? Really?

John Rando   February 16th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Geez, Bill. Who is REALLY running for President? I cannot figure out why their has not been more attention to this fact !!!! That Hillary was the WIFE of the President, that Bill is NOT running for President and that whatever happened in his terms is completely IRRELEVENT TO THIS CAMPAIGN. It should be ILLEGAL for the spouse of a President to run for office AND use the achievement or failures of her husband.
It is totally ridiculous that Bill should CRY about no respect.

Randy Ferguson   February 16th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

My Advice / Comments are this: Dont ever stand for anything ( when the issues are hard Dont Vote, When others veiws are not yours.. Pretend they are… When in doubt .. Critisize, and if you really want to waste money ….. RUN FOR PRESIDENT… When you have the most money you can critisize or pretend what past and current presidents have accomplised… Even the bad ones have done some good. We just dont remember them as easily as it is easier to put someone down…

Just another "it's-all-about-me" comment from a president I once highly admired and voted for twice, but now think he wants Hillary to win so he can reclaim the glory he once had and lost. Just who is running for President?

josh r.   February 16th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Bill is just full of boiling and desparate hot air. I honestly think he is starting to feel envious of Obama. I don't understand what about being a wife to an unfaithful man makes a person so "experienced" to be the next president. Barack has had a lot more governmental experience than Hillary. Hillary is a senator in the state of new york because her last name is Clinton. She had no interest in New York, she just wanted to be a Senator in a major state so she would have a shot at presidency. Obama started with nothing and built his road to the white house without a well known name and from the bottom. He started as one of us, not as an automatic aristocrat that Hillary is.

Mike S., New Orleans   February 16th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

As much as I respect the accomplishments of the Clinton administration, I don't think Obama's campaign is about praising Bill Clinton. And as far as legacies, Mr. Clinton make a disgusting mistake which will be his legacy over and above any of the good things he did. That was his choice.

KR   February 16th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

The above few lines of President Clinton are not only true but it also shows that richness of experience, wisdom and successful delivery are even more important than inspirational speeches.

The clinton years were those of prosperity. The economy boomed. We've had Bush for 3 years (as VP for 2, then Pres for 1) the the great Clinton years …. then another 2 of the worst of the Bushes. Why not bring back to the White House, proven leaders to clean up the mess …. stick with a proven leader, ACTION vs TALK SPEECHES are beautiful but do not run a country. Especially in our current situation

Eve   February 16th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

While many people have found it best to ignore you lately, Mr. Clinton, I do not think Obama is failing to properly praise all the changes you made. We are simply hoping that we found someone who will do much better, and to your apparent dismay, it is not your wife.

Another thing, Bill Clinton, evidently you have never heard that if one is so great other people will say great things about thae person. It really is not attractive for a person to brag about oneself. It means nothing. It is simply the person's impression of him or her self — one great big ego speaking about him or her self.

Obama has gotten a free ride from the media what a shame.

Texas for Hillary!!

Jerry   February 16th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

So it is true if you don't vote Clinton, you're missing real universal health care? No way, Obama rules. Count on Texas but Obama will win.

citizen_c   February 16th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

I thought Hillary was running on her own merits. Can someone please explain to me how she can do that while taking credit for what Bill did?

And if it is the case that she can take credit for his presidency, doesn't it also follow that she should take credit for his failures as president as well? This is just crazy. This is a third term. You can't have it both ways.

MAL   February 16th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Where was Hillary when Bill was president.? It looks like in Bill's time we had a healthcare policy and all this happened during Bush's time

Ted   February 16th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

I agree , Clinton was a great leader and is well respected around the world . He did more for the less fortunate , kept the economy strong
and lest we forget he helped a lot of Afro Americans to get into and find a place in politics. Now here is a motivational speaker with experience and substance.

get bill out of HILLARY's campaign   February 16th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

I wish Bill would get his head out of his butt, and let his wife do her own campaigning. If she's such a big girl, ready for such a position as the President of the United States, let her campaign on her own…just like every other candidate is doing. We already have a Monkey in the White House that has people doing everything for him, we don't' need another one. I'd rather go to another country with a King and Queen to rule over me, rather than do it here with the Clintons.
Go away Bill. And stop distorting what Obama is saying. Your legacy is not being destroyed. So many Obama supporters like you. They love what you accomplished as president, but its not your time anymore. It's your wife's time to run…if you'll let her.

John   February 16th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

I love it! As a former wrestler, you are talk to recognize when an opponent is about to completely lose it because he will start struggling harder than he has the entire fight. Keep struggling Bill! Don't worry, it's not like we realize how desperate you are or anything.

You used to be the only President during my lifetime that I admired. Thanks for making it clear that you're actually not better than the rest.

Teresa Valdez Klein   February 16th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

It seems that President Clinton has conveniently forgotten all those times when he triangulated the most centrist position possible for the express purpose of not making anyone angry, even at the expense of the moral high ground.

By contrast, Senator Obama has shown that he's quite willing to fight when he feels a moral imperative. While Senator Clinton was signing blank checks to the Bush administration for their Iraq war, Senator Obama was taking a bold and highly unpopular position against the invasion.

This is just one more example of how the Clintons will say anything and spin anything to get themselves back into power.

John   February 16th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Clinton seems to have it right. Obama is so squeeky clean. Promises are easy to make when you haven't been tested. When you do make decisions, you do make enemies. The tried and tested, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and Kennedy had many but they were great presidents. Obama's rhetoric makes me nervous. Lots of promises that sound pretty. And criticism of our former presedents it's all too simple and what worries me, is that America seems to be taking the bate! We need to take a cold hard look at Obama, cut the crap and get down to actually find out HOW he is going to do all he promises!

Dan   February 16th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

I am growing tired of hearing these candidates repeating the same buzz-phrases over and over. To be fair, Obama, who I support, has his share, but I think if I hear "Ready on Day One" or "Solutions Business" one more time I will go insane.

Former Sen. Hillary Clinton supporter   February 16th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

I’m beginning to feel sorry that my husband and I have supported Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996. I’m beginning to feel sorry that my husband and I have supported Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary.

JMR   February 16th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Bill seems to forget that his Presidency, was not her Presidency.

Or does he just want to force people make this choice: "If you don't vote for my wife, you never really loved me"

The more I see of Hillary's campaign the more it saddens me.

Randy Hurst San Francisco, California 94121   February 16th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

I speak from experience when I say that William J. Clinton was an excellent President and I explain the reasons that I know that to be true in my book "A Fight Against Tyranny". The book is now outdated; however, time does not detract from a job well done.

james   February 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Let's forget all the bickering and lets come together. President Obama and Vice President Clinton. With this ticket we cannot lose.

Kay   February 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Bill,

You don't get the endorsement of the nation's leading newspaper editorial boards without a lot of substance. After fine grain analysis, these people have concluded that Sen. Obama offers, not only solutions, but inspiration to work together, feel better about our country, our leaders etc…

You and Hillary offer us more of the same, spin our wheels and get no where but a growing chasm between the two parties. By the way, she's off to a great start with Putin - she's just a charmer!

Jimmy Dean   February 16th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

LOL, that was some legacy!

Peter   February 16th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Bill is right on. It is a shame that Obama is reactign this way.

Hillary was the main advocate for UHC - all the other politicians in the DEM party have simply copied her and tried to put their own spin on the issue.

Suzi   February 16th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

Keith865   February 16th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

So, are we to infer that Bill would be Hillary's CO-President? No thanks, Bill, take a clue from your predecessors and find some apolitical humanitarian effort to throw your energy into. Preferably out of the country.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BILL. DON'T LET ANYONE TRY TO
DISCOURAGE YOU. OUR COUNTRY IS AT STAKE.

Dennis   February 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Bravo, Bill. This is exactly the problem with the "Obamamania." Obama is being propelled by a youth vote that has not looked beyond his fresh face. These voters do not have a clue about what it takes to make change. Their imaginations have been stirred and they have defined Obama in their own image, which sadly, given the nature of the Paris Hilton "entitlement generation," is that you can achieve without having to work for it, without having to be tested. The Obama fad will fall flat by the end of the summer. And unfortunately we will be welcoming a president McCain in January.

Sally   February 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

tkaye   February 16th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

I know what Hillary's done for our country, I would now like to hear what Obama's done or even going to do. I keep hearing him talk about "change", getting away from the old establishment, and "hope" but I have yet to hear how he's going to make any of this happen.

Augustus Wills   February 16th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

We? It seems to me that it was Bill's presidency and not Hillary's. Furthermore, it takes time to establish a legacy and the jury is still out on the nature of Bill's. Lastly, the process of defining that legacy can be bolstered by releasing all presidential papers in the Clinton library; especially the ones dealing with travelgate.

SharonR   February 16th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

memyself   February 16th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I wish Bill Clinton would stop trying to make everything about HIM. Does he really think this demeaning, oh don't pick on my poor helpless little wife routine will HELP Hillary?

Obama was doing civil rights and community development work throughout the 90's. The issue isn't anyone doing good in the 90's is suspect. The issue is that mistakes that were made by the Clintons and the fact that Hillary is claiming 35 years of experience based on:

16 years as a corporate lawyer and board member
12 years of being married to someone else who was in charge
7 years of actual relevant experience as a Senator; during which she was a huge enabler of the current mistake in chief

John   February 16th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Who is running for the greatest office of our nation, Bill, Hillary or both?

Linda Feldman   February 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

Bill Clinton's legacy was sullied by his own behavior. Al Gore should have been the next president had Clinton not given Bush his famous (failed) campaign promise of bringing "civility back to Washington and uniting the country." Clinton's legacy was completely overshadowed by his own arrogance and inability to understand an enemy that had him in its crosshairs for years. Had he respected that Gore not his wife was his authentic legacy, we all wouldn't have suffered the last 8 years. He let us down. Those of us who support Obama want an end to the kind of politics that parses the word "is."

adam   February 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

here come the attacks again bill. didn't you say that you would back off obama. this is the same old politics that people are tired of. obama respects what bill clinton did in the past but now he believes its time for change, something bill and hillary obviously don't believe in. hillary is running on her husbands record and the past. i was a supporter of hilary a couple weeks ago but now i am supporting obama. i dislike the way the clintons have run their campaign with false and nasty commercials and remarks on senator obama. i know many people feel the exact same way as I do. the clintons are basically handing the democratic nomination to obama.

The Clintons are just angry that Hillary is not simply traipsing on into the White House–where Bill would be allowed to start up with his old shenanigans. This is called a campaign, kids, this is how it goes.

Joss   February 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

One problem here - Bill isn't running for president. His wife is. Anything he did in office is irrelevant to Hillary's campaign. So sorry if Obama is hurting his ego *roll eyes*

David, Dallas Texas   February 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Bill is right. Obama must have been in a hole somewhere to think that the Hillary Clinton has not done a lot for this country. Obama is too busy tooting his own horn. People want a community organizer to run our country. This is crazy.

Angela   February 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Good point Bill. I hope people can see your wisdom.

Obama has not made anyone mad because he hasn't taken a stand on enough things. No stand , no conflict, no courage. no change.

Hillary 08 All the way to the White House.

Christian   February 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I don't disagree with Bill. But does anyone actually think Obama wouldn't stand and fight when the time came? All Obama is doing is saying that he refuses to just accept old politics as status quo anymore, and instead is choosing to try things a different way. What, exactly, is wrong with thinking positive in dark times for our country?

CE, Wisconsin, USA   February 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

"bridge the party divides when we can"? WOW. A house divided against itself cannot stand. And neither will this country if Hillary is elected.

irma   February 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Well the Senator conveniently ignores the Clinton accomplishments while mimicking many of the Clinton policies as well as Bill and Hillary's campaign messages as part of the "change" he will bring. In fact the Illinois Senators whole campaign strategy is filled with irony.

JDM   February 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

You go Bill. At least you know what state your in when your stumping for your mate. And by the way, I heard on CNN where Obama supporters can now get ringtones of Obama's voice. How cheesy is that? It will only get cheesier if he gets elected. Gross!

dh, independent in nj   February 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Bill -

You did some good and some bad during your years. But - and listen please - IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU, BILL!!

Less ego, please. Obama offers a fantastic alternative to Hillary, and maybe for once, people will vote for someone, not against someone due to negative ads.

Keep it positive, if you can. People are sick and tired of "fighting" and want to work together. This is one reason the Clintons are slipping. They are more taintedwith negative baggage, while Obama's message is new, fresh and inspiring.

Bill sounds a bit unhinged. He appears to be making an argument for citizens to consider his experience as Hillary's, and should just admit that what in fact everyone is voting for is a co-presidency.

Also sounds like they have already made some promises that a potential Obama presidency won't allow them to keep.

So much for free speech.

I am a Clinton Democrat living in Florida and we should count in this primary!! The media coverage in general has been slanted toward Obama and jumped on this presumptive bandwagon to prematurely eliminate Hillary from this race, and build momentum for Obama. Polls are not always accurate, and you were proven wrong before in your predictions. Everytime I see Amy Holmes go into one of her bright-eyed, know-it-all sermons, I wonder who gave her the authority to speak with such conviction when I doubt she has personally not experienced very much in her young life, yet she appears as this political guhru everytime you turn on the TV! Let's let this process play out fairly as suggested by many, and add some mature content.
