The Winners of the Boycott Olympics
From "The People’s Daily": “The protesters who try to sabotage Beijing’s Olympics will offend the Chinese citizens who instead love the Games (...) Politics should not disturb the Olympic Games.”
The CCP knows no shame, as shown by its recent statements published by the Party press in concomitance with the ceremony of the lighting of the Olympic Torch in Beijing. Just to give an idea of the link that has always connected Chinese politics to the Olympic Games, we would like to point out the following:
Helsinki 1952 – China boycotted the Olympics to protest Taiwan’s admission to the Games. They did not return until 1984!
Rome 1960 – During the opening ceremony of the Games, Maoists held up an "under protest" banner – which referred to Taiwan’s participation – in lieu of the Chinese flag. During that same year, Mao banned the sport of baseball in China.
Montreal 1976 – The government of Taiwan registered with the name "Republic of China." This incensed the Chinese government, which threatened to boycott the Games, forcing the organizers to exclude Taiwan. Then they boycotted anyway.
Los Angeles 1984 – The Soviet Union boycotted the Games and encouraged Eastern Block countries to do the same. All the East European satellite countries adhered to the boycott, with the exceptions of Romania and Yugoslavia. After 32 years the paper tiger returned, after having boycotted since 1952.
What hypocrisy! Not only is it practically impossible to have Olympic Games without any political interference - China is the country which has boycotted the games more than any other!
In a heavily-guarded Tiananmen Square, before a specially selected public of VIPs and under the huge image of Mao, China’s President Hu Jintao appeared at the scene of the crime and lit the Olympic Torch which had travelled to Beijing from Greece. In Tiananmen, the same place where 19 years ago thousands of peaceful students, together with the regular citizens who had joined them, demonstrated for "freedom"” with flowers in their hands.
These peaceful demonstrators were brutally slaughtered by the "People’s" army, complete with tanks. Now that very same regime believes to be in the position to lecture the world about the meaning of the Olympic spirit, telling us to not "interfere" with this splendid showcase of friendship among peoples.
"A few clouds will not cover the sun's radiance, and a few trouble-makers will not hold back the world's expectations for the Beijing Olympic Games," writes the "The People’s Daily."
By now the entire world is on to China’s lies. There is no longer any place for them to hide their misdeeds.
